Froyo in Taipei

In a country with a scorching summer, you would think that there would be more frozen yogurt stores. While there is a market, people are less familiar with it, so it is up to these two stores, Yogo and Glö to further introduce frozen yogurt to a new crowd in Taiwan.
Yogo
For Yogo, there are 3 locations so far in the Xinyi Viewshow building, food court in A11, and another on Yanchang Road. They are not self-serving, but you would get to pick a topping you would like from the cup size from small, medium, and large. Their froyo tasted a little sweeter than expected and I didn’t really taste yogurt. It tasted more milky. When we asked what it consisted of, they said that it was yogurt blended up and put into the machine. Depending on the size of your cup, you can get different amounts of toppings.

For the small one, at a price of $159 NTD, which we got, we could choose one topping from the variety of fruits, snacks, and more

Having a large amount of fruit toppings means that they would have to prepare it daily, and its mango tasted really fresh. Regardless of the toppings, they would place it aesthetically onto the frozen yogurt that makes it eye appealing. At the end of making their products, whether it was froyo or the smoothies, they would put a teaspoon of yogurt from Matthew’s Choice frozen yogurt and dollops of it into the smoothie.
Glö
In comparison, Glö is a self-serving frozen yogurt located in two locations - underground of Zhongshan station (walk towards exit 4) and National Concert Hall. Before you get inside, at the Zhongshan location, there is typically a line.

Based on the time that you go, there would be different amounts of people. The first time (Thursday night) when I went, I gave up on lining up because it took more than half an hour while the second time I went on 17:30 Tuesday, was around a 10-15 minute wait, so be ready to be patient before eating frozen yogurt. In Glö, there are 5 flavors of frozen yogurt, including plain, strawberry, pineapple, oolong tea, and carrot. I tried plain, strawberry, and pineapple, and out of all of the flavors, my favorite was strawberry because it had a combination of sweet and sour that didn’t make it too
overwhelming. The pineapple on the other hand was a little sweet for my taste and for the plain, there was an aftertaste for me. For all of them, there was a small amount of yogurt taste and the plain yogurt’s aftertaste was kind of like baby formula, but not in a bad way. For the toppings, there was some variety of fruits you could choose from, including dragonfruit, kiwi and guava. The dragon fruit was like the dragonfruit inside the Starbucks Mango Dragonfruit Acai drink. I also got the coconut jelly, and it was decent. For my friend Sophie’s base, she got pineapple and plain, where she thought there could be more of a taste of yogurt and the pineapple was a little too sweet for her taste. For the toppings, she got the passionfruit drizzle, coconut flakes and oats. The passionfruit drizzle was a good addition to the frozen yogurt. The coconut flakes, according to Sophie, could’ve had more texture to it. The oats, on the other hand, were good because they added a crunchy bite to the soft frozen yogurt and they tasted like granola.

Conclusion
This is a great snack to get a break from the heat in Taiwan. If you would like your froyo to look pretty, I would recommend going to yogo, but keep in mind that there would be less toppings you can try depending on the size. On the other hand, if you would like to try out many different things, go to Glö, but know that there is a waiting line that may be long depending on the time you go there.
