Tim Horton's

Tim Horton, a legendary NHL defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs started the global chainstore. Apart from providing delicious food, Tim Hortons also sponsors hundreds of thousands of kids playing in hockey minor leagues. Being a big chainstore, it has the largest number of restaurants in Canada. It is reported that 80% of Canadians go to Tim Hortons at least once a month, demonstrating how popular they are amongst both locals and visitors. As the unofficial symbol of Canada, they serve a variety of food from pastries, breakfast wraps and sandwiches, to famous beverages such as the Double Double (a coffee with 2 creams and 2 sugars).

For the savory options, I’ve personally tried the farmer’s wrap and farmer’s sandwich. They include eggs, cheese, a savory hash brown, and a choice of pork sausage, crispy bacon, or ham. When I ate the sandwich, the flavors melted in my mouth and I could feel the crispiness of

the hash brown crumbling in my mouth. The crispiness of the bacon or the warm feeling of the ham makes you feel calm and relaxed in the morning. Tim Hortons also sells Omelette Bites. They offer 3 different flavors: Bacon & Cheese, Spinach & Egg, and Three Cheese.

Apart from those savory options, there are also pastries such as eclairs, donuts, brownies, and the famous TimBits. TimBits are bite sized versions of the donuts, they taste like cake, so it was definitely not what I expected when I bit into it. Being in Asia, when you hear the term donut, you would think of Mr. Donut, a Japanese chainstore that would make mochi donuts, which would be much chewier and stretchy compared to the cake for TimBits. Normally, they would come in a box that contains 10-20 boxes, perfect for sharing with friends and family. When I was there, I loved getting it with my friends and the first time I tried Tim Hortons it was the same day that I went to Niagara Falls. Having a filling breakfast from Tim Hortons gave me a great day of exploring Niagara.

The eclair in Tim Hortons is extremely sweet with cream and fake-ish chocolate throughout the eclair. As someone that does not like sweet food, I would recommend the eclair because it is so sweet that it stinged my tongue. Regardless, it is very recommended for those that want a small snack or a small breakfast.

If I had to rate Tim Hortons out of 10, it would be 8.5/10 because some pastries were sweet but others are really good for the price of food in Canada. They were a symbol of my stay in Canada and I would definitely miss having it as a food option back home in Taiwan.
