Betty’s Burger is a fast food chain that is based in Australia. We heard about it back home from people that have been to Australia and they were raving about how good this store is. We had our doubts, as we thought nothing could beat Shake Shack. After a full day in Sydney Harbor, from going on a tour guide in Sydney Opera House and climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge while getting a chance to shop a little, my family and I were exhausted and were craving for some good food.

When we got to the store, we were sitting outside, as there was no seating available in the indoor area. The chilling air and runny noses were making all of us hangry. After ordering our food, we did not have patience. The wait time was around 10 minutes, which didn’t take long, but felt like forever with our starving and cold bodies. When our restaurant pager buzzed, I could not wait for the food to be in front of me. The presentation was simple but inviting, which made all of our water salivate. It reminded me of all the American fast food chains while being distinctively Australian, as the ingredients looked fresh and the food looked like it was just prepared instead of being premade. Furthermore, it felt different from all the American fast food chains. When we were in that store, there were outside seats and indoor seating, which gave it a more relaxed tone to the store instead of the feeling of having to finish the food quickly when I go to American fast food restaurants. It was relaxed and the settings were there for me to enjoy my food.

We got 3 Betty’s Classic and 1 Betty’s Deluxe, 2 French fries, and one crispy chicken strip. There was a generous amount of lettuce in the burger, which made it feel healthier. The thing I liked about the burger was the crispiness of the buns. They were toasted perfectly, when you opened the burger, you could tell it was toasted golden with patience and care. It gave each bite a satisfying crunch before melting into the cheesy, savory fillings inside. At first, it was harder to bite due to the amount of lettuce on the burger, but after that, it was the perfect combination between crispy and cheesy and filling.

For me this was kind of a metaphor, as many people on social media would describe Australia as a country filled with scary animals that are huge and daunting. However, for us at least, when we were in the city during wintertime, there were not any scary things and I got through the lettuce and enjoyed the trip there immensely.

Additionally, the chicken strips were great as well. They were juicy and tender on the inside with a crispy outside. It wasn’t dry and the sauce with it was amazing. The fries, on the other hand, were too dry for my taste. It wasn’t as crunchy as I expected it to be and it tasted a little bland without the sauce, but it made up for it as they were great paired together.

For my first time eating Betty’s Burger, it was a great and memorable experience. After a long day, a great burger is a perfect way to end the evening. Even though the french fries were not perfect, the chicken tenders and burger made it way over the standards. If I ever visit Sydney again, I would definitely go back to Betty’s Burger.
